The opening round of the Civic Cup saw BSR field three cars, with Aidan Mitchell, Jake Renshaw, and Garry Townsend all taking to the track. It was a weekend of highs and lows, but the potential within the team is clear as the season gets underway.
Aidan Mitchell – Impressive Debut Weekend
In his first-ever weekend racing cars, Aidan Mitchell put in a strong qualifying performance, securing P9 in an ultra-competitive session. Unfortunately, his first race ended in disappointment when a driveshaft failure forced him to retire while running P12. However, Aidan bounced back brilliantly in Race 2, charging through the field from last place to finish in P18, showcasing his race craft and determination.
Jake Renshaw – Fighting Spirit on Display
Jake Renshaw had an encouraging start to his campaign, qualifying P11. A slow getaway in Race 1 dropped him to the back of the pack, but he fought back to claim a P15 finish. Race 2 saw him battling in the thick of the action, running as high as P12 while dicing with the drivers in P10 and P11. Unfortunately, a small mistake saw him slip to P17, but his pace and racing instincts were clear to see.
Garry Townsend – Strong Recovery Drives-
Garry Townsend faced a challenging qualifying session after an off-track excursion, but he recovered well in Race 1 with a solid drive through the field. In Race 2, he made a lightning start but was caught out after dropping a wheel off the circuit, leading to a minor off. However, he regrouped quickly and enjoyed some fantastic battles on his way to the checkered flag.
Plenty of Potential to Unlock-
Despite some setbacks, the weekend highlighted the raw pace and potential of our drivers. With minimal testing, both Aidan and Jake immediately showed top-10 pace, an incredible achievement in such a competitive field. As the season progresses, their speed and race craft will only continue to improve.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this weekend happen – the team, sponsors, and supporters. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds!
